Insel Gruppe Browser game for a littering campaign

Client: Insel Gruppe AG
Job: Conception and development of a browser game and associated website for the "Operation Clean Insel Gruppe" campaign
Illustration: Kristina Krebs

The employees of the Insel Gruppe are to be sensitized to the topic of littering through a game.

We developed the game with the open source framework Phaser.io, which already provides us with basic game physics on which we can build the game. An additional advantage: As a browser game, the game does not have to be installed and can be played directly. However, there are new hurdles: There are countless browsers and their functionality differs in various factors in each case. For example, it is not possible to switch to full-screen mode in the mobile Safari browser.

After conception and design, we implemented the campaign website quickly using Twig and the usual front-end techniques. With the integration of the game, we ultimately also had to ensure that employees of the Insel Group could participate with their user account and win prizes.

The challenges in this project:

👉 Conception and development of a browser game
👉 Browser compatibility
👉 A leaderboard to save the achieved score

The project team was small and spread all over the world:

The Insel Group project team from the home office or from their headquarters 🏨
The project manager Samuel Dunkel in the studio in Bern ⌨️
Our UI specialist Sandro in the Fribourg Pre-Alps 🗻
Illustrator and animator Kristina Krebs from Boston, USA 🇺🇸
Our developers Nicolas from Bern West 💻 and our developer Michael from Seoul, South Korea 🇰🇷 (during his study exchange semester).
